Used metal lockers in South Africa, and around the world for that matter, are experiencing a renaissance of sorts. While used metal lockers may once have ended up on the recycling heap, or at the back of a workshop somewhere, they are now being bought by creative DIY enthusiasts all over the country.
While used metal lockers are still perfect for industrial purposes, and are every bit as strong as their brand new brethren, they have a slightly magical air about them. They come from a period in history that we are now able to tap into, often using nothing more than some sandpaper and maybe a splash of paint. And the best part about it is that there are plenty of used metal lockers for sale – you just have to know where to look.
Turn Your Used Old Metal Lockers Into Creative Benches
The idea of repurposing used metal lockers in South Africa is by no means a new one. There have been many creative new lives experienced by used lockers. That being said, the following locker is something that is especially creative.
The person responsible for this locker started with nothing but the door and the frame. The sides had to be fashioned out of wood. This, however, was a good thing as it allows the bench to double as a partitioned chest.
The backrests of the bench are also repurposed, and aren’t actually backrests at all. They are actually the base sides of antique sewing machines – Singer machines to be exact.
