Though used racking solutions are just as safe as they are affordable, it is worth noting that they have had a life with their previous owners.  With this in mind, it helps to give them the right amount of care in order to prolong their lifespans.

This care doesn’t have to be over the top, but it just requires a bit of attention at regular intervals to ensure that everything is performing the way it should be.  With the following tips, you can get years upon years of life out of your used racking and shelving solutions.

How to Keep Your Used Racking Solutions in Great Condition

  1. Buy Wisely

For starters, choose suppliers that you know sell only high-quality goods.  This way, you can be sure that the material is strong enough to hold heavy loads and you can still use the racking as it was originally intended to be used.

  1. Consider the Environment

Also, before you buy any racking and shelving solutions, consider the environment in which you want to use them.  Will the racks be outside, or in a refrigerated environment?  Different racks are more suited to certain conditions, so find out which type of racking would be best for your purposes.

  1. Use Safety Guards

Safety guards are accessories that you can fit to the ends of the aisles and the columns of your racking in order to protect it from damage.  This is good because any damage, no matter how small, can gradually weaken the integrity of racks over time.

  1. Promote Care and Safety

Another way to prevent against damage is to take measures that help your warehouse employees exercise more care.  By fitting bright lights, for example, you increase visibility and help your forklift drivers steer clear of your racks.  Also, by widening your aisles you help decrease the chance of collisions between forklifts and your racking solutions as there is more room to manoeuvre.

  1. Inspect Regularly

It is important that you inspect your racks regularly, even if you have taken the above safety precautions into consideration.  This way, you can catch any structural issues while they are still small and have not yet affected the equipment’s ability to perform.

  1. Treat Damage Immediately

If you do find any damage during your regular inspection, be sure to treat it immediately.  Even small scratches that leave the steel exposed can lead to corrosion, which will weaken the integrity of the rack.  So, be sure to tend to any issues as they arise.
